MDOT intends to build a solid and robust engagement and outreach program, including training and matchmaking, to maximize opportunities for local participation in the 375 project. This commitment includes the outreach and effort to recruit certified small businesses and appropriate training.
On Thursday, July 27, 2023, MDOT hosted an Industry Forum for the I-375 Reconnecting Communities Project at Wayne County Community College District’s Curtis L. Ivery Campus in Detroit. The forum provided an opportunity for attendees to learn about project goals, the project delivery method, upcoming requests for proposals (RFPs), and MDOT certifications.
MDOT outlined their commitment to engaging local businesses and workforce development partners in the pre-construction and construction phases. Discussions included multi-modal transportation concepts, small business participation, workforce development, community enhancements, and the framework plan for future land use. Public engagement for the framework plan is expected to continue through 2024.
On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, MDOT hosted the second Small Business Industry Forum at the Detroit Transportation Service Center. The forum provided an opportunity for attendees to learn about project updates, procurement status, MDOT capacity assessments, and the Mentor-Protégé Program.
Attendees also participated in breakout sessions covering MDOT requirements and certification processes for consultants and contractors. The forum aimed to connect local businesses and workforce development partners interested in pre-construction and construction opportunities for the I-375 Reconnecting Communities Project.
